Buchanan's Native Plants has been serving our neighbors in the Historic Heights (and beyond) since 1986.  We are known for hardy native Texas plants and trees, as well as the best selections of perennials, annuals, herbs, heirloom vegetables and antique roses.

Lecture Series & Gardener's Happy Hour

The Buchanan's Spring Lecture Series and Gardener's Happy Hour has been a great success! We have fabulous speakers and everyone has enjoyed the garden wine & cheese happy hour. We have extended the Gardener's Happy Hour through May and are now returning to a Saturday morning lecture schedule.

• Thursday, May 4th. 5:30 - 6:30 pm. Gardener's Happy Hour.

• Saturday, May 6th. 10:00 am. "Your Garden through a Butterfly's Eyes" with Nancy Greig, of the Cockrell Butterfly Center at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

Endless Summer® Hydrangea

Plant Highlight of the Week

This week, our staff has chosen to highlight the  hydrangeas as a great plant for the Houston gardener. We carry an excellent variety. Endless Summer® Hydrangea is our plant of the week. This is the first Hydrangea macrophylla that blooms on both old and new wood for repeat-blooming color all summer long. It produces big, showy flower mops – clear pink blooms in alkaline soils and blue blooms in acid soils. Makes an excellent choice a partial shade garden. Reaches 3-5' in height when mature.

Monarch Update

The Monarch butterflies are still migrating through the Houston area and they are looking for Milkweed. We have lots of the Mexican Milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) which is their favorite plant and important to their life-cycle. To ensure that our Milkweed is pesticide-free, we quarantine it for a week before we sell it.

What's New at Buchanan's

Mad Mats! Check out our wonderful discovery this season. These are colorful mats made from recycled plastic that are just perfect for outdoor (or indoor use). Take them to the beach, or use them to add color to your patio. (Available in 3 sizes and an array of designs.)  We love them! Bird Baths. It has been so hot and dry that your backyard birds need to find water. Make them happy by offering water in a bird bath that is not just functional, but also adds style to your garden.
