Donna Buchanan

Donna, a Texas Master Certified Nursery Professional (TMCNP), was one of the first people in Texas to recognize that gardeners wanted an easier way to find Texas native plants and organic gardening supplies. She responded by opening Buchanan's Native Plants. She's pictured here with one of our garden center cats, Cleo.

Linda

Linda is also a Texas Master Certified Nursery Professional (TMCNP), and joined Buchanan's in 1997. She manages the annuals, herbs, soil and organic garden supply departments. She is also an avid birdwatcher and long-time organic gardener.

Nicki

Nicki, Buchanan's gift store manager, has been with us since 1999. She's responsible for the fabulous garden gift items, gardening books, pottery, birdbaths and statuary. Nicki has a great eye for the artistic and eclectic items that make Buchanan's Native Plants the perfect place to find the perfect gift for your special garden geek. 

Natasha

Natasha researches and develops the plant information labels for Buchanan's, is the webmaster, e-mail newsletter editor. She manages the tree, shrub and rose department. Natasha is another one of Buchanan's birding experts.

Karen

Karen manages our perennial and citrus departments. She loves to help customers with their organic gardening questions. She's a long-time user of organic pest control methods and organic gardening supplies. She's also very knowledgeable about pest and disease identification.

Pumpkin

Pumpkin is one of our resident nursery cats. She is also our "guard" cat -- and keeps an eye on any dog that comes in.

Karyl

Karyl prefers helping Buchanan's customers to getting her picture taken. Ask Karyl about Texas native plants and wildlife gardens.

Cleo

Cleo is our laid back black kitty. Nothing bothers her. She enjoys taking an afternoon nap among the displays -- in this case our menagerie of Talavera frogs!

Joey

A Texas Master Certified Nursery Professional (TMCNP), Joey has been working in the plant nursery business for most of his life. A Texas native, just like the plants at Buchanan's, Joey loves to help customers find just the right plant for their garden.

Zach

Zach has been with Buchanan's Native Plants since 2002. He's a student at University of Houston, majoring in art history. Zach works in customer service, as a cashier and makes deliveries. Zach also helps customers who want to install water fountains and generally improve their Houston garden.

Hagen

Hagen is Buchanan's very own plant 'wunderkind' who can tell you everything you want to know about a plant, especially Texas native plants. A math and physics major at University of Houston, Hagen has been gardening in Houston for as long as he can remember.

Steve

Steve is certified as a  Texas Master Gardener and avid golfer. Do not get between Steve and his tee times.

Larry

Larry is certified as a Texas Master Gardener and usually can be found in our greenhouse answering questions about tropicals, indoor plants and disease identification.

Jared

Jared has a background in classical music and design. He is in charge of the visual merchandising department and works will all department leaders to ensure efficient and attractive visual displays. 

Michael

Michael is a schoolteacher by day and a part-time cashier for Buchanan's by night. Actually, Buchanan's isn't open at night, but Michael works on weekends and school holidays. Michael has an eye for design and designs gardens on the side.

Susan

Susan is a part-time cashier and all-around plant person.

Gail

Gail is a part-time cashier. She loves plants and can often be found in the gift shop, helping a customer find just the right garden gift.

Salvador

Salvador has been with Buchanan's longer than anyone else - 21 years! He is our maintenance and plant care guy. He also makes most of the lovely color bowls you see around the garden center.

Matthew

Matthew has been gardening in Houston since he was a kid, tromping through the wilds of Kingwood searching for snakes and other reptiles. He's still into snakes, but he's added organic gardening and Texas native plants to his list of interests. Matthew manages Buchanan's garden pot department.

Peter

Peter works in every department at Buchanan's, helping move big stuff and answering customer questions about gardening in Houston.
